1. Aesthetics: Timber decking can enhance the look of your outdoor space by adding a natural and warm feel to your surroundings. Rather than concrete or stone slabs.
2. Durability: Timber decking is durable and can withstand rain, sun, and wind. Properly treated timber can also resist rot and decay.
3. Versatility: Timber decking can be customised to fit any outdoor space and can be stained or painted to match the home's exterior and your taste.
4. Value: Decking is far less expensive than installing stone slabs.
5. Sustainability: Timber is a renewable resource, making it an environmentally-friendly option for decking compared with concrete.
It's crucial to take care of garden timber decking to maintain its safety, attractiveness, and durability. Here are some tips to help you care for your garden timber decking:
Regularly clean the decking: Dirt, debris, and algae can accumulate on the decking, so it's essential to clean it regularly. Use a mild detergent solution and a soft-bristled brush to clean it, but avoid using a pressure washer as this can cause damage.
Inspect for damage: Check the decking for any signs of damage like cracks, splits, or rot. Repair or replace any damaged sections immediately to avoid further harm.
Apply a protective finish: A protective finish like oil, stain, or sealant can safeguard the decking from the elements. Follow the manufacturer's instructions while applying the finish and reapply it as needed.
Ensure adequate ventilation: Proper ventilation helps prevent moisture buildup on the decking, which can lead to rot and other damage. Install vents or leave gaps between the decking boards to maintain good ventilation.
Avoid placing heavy objects on the decking: Heavy objects such as furniture or planters can cause damage to the decking, so move them around frequently to avoid creating pressure points.
Trim nearby vegetation: Overhanging trees and shrubs can damage the decking and hinder it from drying out properly. Trim back any vegetation that's too close to the decking.
By following these tips, you can help maintain the excellent condition of your garden timber decking and ensure that it remains attractive and durable for many years to come.
